Here are the terms of use and refund policy for Transcription App.
Last updated: 28th September 2026
1. Introduction
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Transcription App (the “App”), available at https://transcription-app.com and distributed as desktop software for macOS, Windows and Linux. Transcription App is developed and supplied by Dr. Samuel Haddad-Bacry (“Supplier”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). Paddle acts as Merchant of Record and authorised reseller of the App and is responsible for payment processing, subscriptions, billing, taxes, cancellations, and refunds. By placing an order, subscribing to, downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms, the Paddle Checkout Buyer Terms and Conditions, and any applicable Supplier terms. You acknowledge that you purchase the App from Paddle and that the App is licensed to you by the Supplier.
2. Description of the App
Transcription App is an AI-powered transcription application designed to run locally on your device. It relies on OpenAI’s Whisper models, NVIDIA’s Parakeet model and Pyannote speaker recognition to transcribe audio and video files and perform speaker diarisation. All transcription is performed locally on your computer. No audio, video, or transcript content is uploaded to any server. Internet access is required only to verify licence or subscription status and to download required AI models.
3. Eligibility and Acceptable Use
You may use the App only if you are legally able to enter into a binding agreement. You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, modify, adapt, distribute, resell, sublicense, or otherwise exploit the App except as expressly permitted. You must not attempt to bypass licence verification, subscription enforcement, or other technical protections.
4. Licence
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and payment of applicable fees, the Supplier grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on your own devices. This licence does not transfer ownership of the App or any associated intellectual property rights.
5. Free Version
The App may be used free of charge in a free mode, which is not time-limited and transcribes complete recordings, without a limit on their duration, using the Whisper Base model. Other AI models and certain features, as described on the Website, require a paid subscription. The Supplier reserves the right to modify or discontinue the free version or any of its features at any time.
6. Subscriptions and Payments
Access to the full functionality of the App is provided through paid subscriptions offered on a monthly or yearly basis. Paid subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled. All payments, invoicing, subscription management, taxes, and refunds are handled exclusively by Paddle. Prices may change at any time, and you will be notified of any price increase where required. If you wish to cancel a subscription, you must do so in accordance with Paddle’s cancellation procedures.
7. Right to Cancel and Refund Policy
7.1 General right to cancel
Except as set out below, you may cancel your purchase or subscription without giving any reason within fourteen (14) days from the day following completion of the transaction. To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient that you notify Paddle or the Supplier of your decision before the expiration of the relevant cancellation period. You may submit cancellation requests by email to sam@transcription-app.com, and such requests will be forwarded for processing where applicable.
7.2 Digital content and loss of cancellation right
Where the App constitutes digital content that is made available immediately, by downloading, activating, or otherwise accessing the App you expressly consent to immediate performance of the contract and acknowledge that you may lose your right to cancel once access to the App has begun, in accordance with applicable consumer protection laws.
7.3 Refunds
Refunds are provided by Paddle and are assessed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with Paddle’s Buyer Terms and applicable law. Refund requests may be refused where the App has been used, where the subscription period has begun, where fraud, abuse, or manipulative behaviour is detected, or where requests are submitted outside permitted timeframes. There are no refunds for unused portions of subscription periods once a billing cycle has started. This policy does not affect your rights in cases where the App is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose.
8. Privacy and Data Protection
Transcription App is designed with privacy by design principles. The Supplier does not collect, store, or process the content of your audio files, video files, or transcripts. No user accounts are created to store transcription data, and no content is reused for training, analytics, or advertising. Licence verification and limited technical data processing are carried out in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws.
9. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights in and to the App, including software code, user interface, text, documentation, and branding, are owned by or licensed to the Supplier. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the App except as expressly permitted by these Terms.
10. Updates and Availability
The Supplier may modify, update, suspend, or discontinue the App or any part of it at any time. The Supplier does not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the App or compatibility with all devices, operating systems, or future updates.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, to the fullest extent permitted by law. The Supplier makes no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy of transcription results. You are responsible for reviewing and validating all outputs generated by the App.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Supplier shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the App. You are responsible for backing up your systems and data. The Supplier’s total liability shall not exceed the amount paid by you for the relevant subscription period, except where liability cannot be limited by law.
13. Third-Party Technologies
The App incorporates third-party technologies, including AI models provided by OpenAI, NVIDIA and Pyannote. The Supplier is not responsible for the availability, performance, or modification of third-party technologies and provides no warranties in relation to them.
14. Termination
If you fail to comply with these Terms, the Supplier may suspend or terminate your licence to use the App. Upon termination, you must immediately cease all use of the App.
15. Governing Law
These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights applicable to you.
