Transcription App was created by Dr. Samuel Haddad-Bacry, a researcher working with qualitative methods and interview-based fieldwork.

Privacy-first by design
Transcription App is designed to run locally on your computer. Your recordings remain on your device, and transcription is performed directly on your machine.
The application does not connect to the internet except when:
you subscribe via our payment provider (Paddle), and/or
you download an AI transcription model the first time you use it, and the app checks your licence
This means your interview data is not uploaded, processed, or stored on any remote server. Check out our privacy policy for more information.
Accurate transcription in multiple languages
Transcription App runs OpenAI Whisper models and NVIDIA’s Parakeet v3 on your own computer. Whisper is a state-of-the-art speech recognition model known for strong accuracy and robust multilingual performance. Whisper supports transcription in 99 languages, making Transcription App suitable for international research projects and multilingual workflows.
Free forever, with Whisper Base
Transcription App is freemium. The free mode is not a trial: it transcribes complete recordings of any length with Whisper Base, in unlimited projects, with speaker recognition and the transcript and subtitle editors included. A subscription unlocks the more advanced models, Whisper Large Turbo, Parakeet v3, Whisper Medium and Whisper Small, along with Word and WebVTT exports, subprojects and project archives.
For qualitative research: Qualitativist
Transcription App focuses on transcription, speakers and subtitles. For researchers who also need to code their data, run advanced searches, manage a literature library and cite in Word, I built a sister suite, Qualitativist, on the same private, on-device transcription.
